EVENT PREVIEW

New to the schedule this year, the NMRA & NMCA will converge for an All-Star event in a true Motorsports Capital. Concord, North Carolina, is home to the newest, state-of-the-art drag strip, zMAX Dragway. This "Bellagio of Dragstrips" is a one-of-a-kind facility with the only all-concrete, four-lane drag strip in the United States. There will be plenty in store for this monumental event. The NMRA Ford Nationals and the NMCA Muscle Car Nationals will be bringing all their biggest and brightest stars to race down this one of a kind track. Also, Hot Rod Magazine & Flowmaster bring you a special event, The Hot Rod Drags, where you will see the rest in late-model detroit muscle on the 1320! This event will have something for everyone! There will be two separate car shows, a massive vendor midway, sprawling swap meet, and let's not forget the "Legendary Burnout Contest". So don't miss your chance to experience what will eventually become one of the biggest events of the season.

See NMRA and NMCA Action at One Exciting Event!

So whether you're a rabid Ford fan or a muscle car fanatic, this race will keep you on the edge of your seat all weekend long. At the All Star Nationals you get two events for the price of one. All of the NMRA's wild all-Ford classes will compete at this event. You will also see Chevy vs. Ford vs. Mopar when the NMCA's wheels-up classes race for glory.

Race Your Street Car in an Entry Level Class

Have you ever wanted to drag race? Imagine racing your street car on the best drag strip in the USA! NMRA and NMCA have a whole bunch of entry level classes designed just for you. True Street is for 15 second cars down with over 9 awards given away on Saturday. Open Comp, Modular Muscle, Super Stang are all great classes for a new racer. For rules information check out the rules in the racer section of this website.

Two Giant Auto Shows Each Day!

NMRA will host an awesome auto show and shine presented by Modified Mustangs & Fords and Mustang Monthly magazines. Bring out your Ford muscle car, hot rod, truck or specialty vehicle for a chance to win over 50 awards each day (Saturday and Sunday). Have a Chevy or a Mopar? Bring em out because the NMCA will also host an all-domestic auto show for any American made muscle car, hot rod or street car with over 100 awards given away over the weekend. This is the BIG one for car shows in the Chicagoland area with the NMRA show and NMCA show attracting some of the most beautiful, collectible, stock and modified muscle cars and hot rods in the U.S.

Huge Manufacturers' Midway & Swap Meet

Looking to buy some parts for your Mustang or Ford? How about for a Chevy or Mopar? Do you want to speak face-to-face with performance experts? The NMRA & NMCA has always had an awesome manufacturers' midway with all sorts of good deals on the performance parts you need for your muscle car or hot rod. There is also a used parts swap meet for folks who are looking for that special hard to find car part!

HOT ROD MAGAZINE DRAGS

Hot Rod Drags Presented by Flowmaster

HOT ROD magazine has joined forces with Promedia, the company behind the NMRA Ford Nationals and the NMCA Muscle Car Nationals, to promote the best in late-model Detroit muscle at the NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals event at zMAX Dragway, August 6-9, 2009. zMax Dragway, the new four-lane dragstrip owned by Bruton Smith, is the premier place to get the muscle car wars back in session.

Ever since the discussion of the return of the Camaro, HOT ROD’s been talking about establishing a drag race where Modular-powered Ford Mustangs, LS-powered four-passenger GM cars, and Dodge/Chrysler 5.7/6.1L Hemis would race for bragging rights. The event HOT ROD proposed would prove more than which cars are the fastest but also provide each brand’s rabid enthusiasts a venue to cheer on their heroes, flame their opponents, and build race cars to compete in a series that defines the new generation of performance muscle cars. All that talk is now a reality, with the return of the HOT ROD Drags with assistance from presenting sponsor, Flowmaster Mufflers.

The HOT ROD Drags will be made up of two classes of production style street-legal cars competing either in an index or heads-up class. The vehicles must be four-passenger cars and include ’98 and later V8 Modular powered Mustangs, late-model Dodge Chrysler vehicles with 5.7 to 6.1L Hemi engines, and late-model V-8 LS –powered GM vehicles. No retrofit drivetrain of modern V-8’s into retrochassis are permitted. The basic rules ensure the competitors are not full-on race cars. Complete rules are available at HOTROD.com.

The HOT ROD Late-Model Index class will be the BIG one. On Saturday, all Fords run together as Team Ford, the GMs as Team GM, and the Chryslers as Team Mopar. NMRA/NMCA will keep track of who the leaders are in each category. $1,000 and a special award will be given to each group for the fastest street car; HOT ROD’s Fastest Ford Award, HOT ROD’s Fastest GM award, and HOT ROD’s Fastest Mopar Award. These awards will be presented on the Sunday of the event. On Sunday, all competitors are mixed up so Ford can take on Chevy and Mopar.

The HOT ROD Heads-Up class will showcase the best in late-model Ford, GM, and Mopar as they race each other heads-up. Racers who want to run in the heads-up class must sign up for it at the beginning of the event. They will make their qualifying passes on Saturday, and NMRA/NMCA will select the fastest two Fords, two GMs, and two Chryslers, plus two wild cards based on qualifying passes. Any racers who did not qualify for the Heads-Up Class will automatically be entered into the HOT ROD Drags Late-Model Index class and continue to participate. NMRA/NMCA has devised a ladder system that will have opposing brands run against each other in the first round.

Just announced...special Hot Rod magazine auto show & shine classes for late-model show participants!

If you have a late-model GM, Ford or Chrysler vehicle that turns heads, then you want to enter it in the Hot Rod magazine show & shine.  Special awards will be given away for the following cars on Saturday and Sunday:

  • Best '08 & Up Challenger
  • Best 300
  • Best Magnum
  • Best Modern Charger
